Agricultural chitosan oligosaccharide is a new type of sugar chain plant vaccine developed by the national biochemical engineering technology center of the Institute of process engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. History Of Glyco Chain Plant Vaccine

Du Yuguang, a researcher at the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the State Key Laboratory of Biochemical Engineering (formerly head of the Natural Products and Sugar Engineering Research Group of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), has focused his research on sugar substances with plant immune regulation since 1996. With the support of Dalian Municipal Science and Technology Commission, the Ninth Five-Year Key Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Ninth Five-Year Key Scientific and Technological Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, we led the scientific research team to carry out innovative work in the field of research and development of new oligosaccharides biopesticides. Through overcoming many hardships, we completed the small-scale and pilot-scale production of active oligosaccharides. The standardized field pharmacodynamics experiments were carried out in two years, and the industrialization test was successful in 2000. The new pesticide registration certificate of the Ministry of Agriculture (LS 2000 1432) was obtained. It took the lead in realizing the industrialization of oligosaccharide biopesticides in the world. In the same year, the appraisal of scientific and technological achievements of the "Ninth Five-Year Plan" key scientific and technological projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology was completed.


In the research process of using amino-oligosaccharide biological pesticide to control plant diseases and insect pests, Professor Du Yuguang was keen to discover that this kind of active oligosaccharides may be different from traditional pesticides in the mechanism of controlling crop diseases. Their bactericidal and bacteriostatic activities are very low, but they are used before the crops are infected by pathogenic microorganisms. But it can greatly improve the disease resistance of plants. By referring to the relevant literature of scholars at home and abroad, Mr. Du Yuguang judged that oligosaccharides were an elicitor to stimulate plant defense response. In 2001 and 2002, with the support of the CAS Key Project of Applied Research and Development and the National High-tech Research and Development Plan (863 Plan) (2002AA245131) Project "Oligosaccharide Induced Plant Defense Response and the Development of New Antiviral Pesticides", Professor Du Yuguang led the research team from the structure, function and life of oligosaccharide signaling molecules. The mechanism of oligosaccharides inducing and regulating plant defense response has been deeply studied, and a large number of experimental data have been obtained, which provides a solid theoretical basis for the research and development of new oligosaccharides biological pesticides.


With the deepening of the research, Du Yuguang found that oligosaccharides and other substances in plants have similar efficacy to conventional animal vaccines in animals. The concept of "plant vaccines" was formed in his mind. A new concept needs not only the support of scientific theory, but also the wide acceptance of domestic and foreign counterparts. At the same time, Professor Qiu Dewen, Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, believed that the substance that could induce plant immune defense response could be called "plant immune inducer". In 2006, Du Yuguang fully exchanged the idea of "plant vaccine" with Mr. Qiu Dewen. They agreed that "plant immune inducer" is "plant vaccine".


In 2008, Professor Qiu Dewen, Du Yuguang and other researchers, as deputy editors, participated in the preparation of Plant Immunity and Plant Vaccine, which was published in the Science Publishing House. The book defines this kind of substance with the ability to activate the plant immune system as "plant vaccine", which greatly promotes the development of plant immunology in China. Based on the function and function of oligosaccharides in regulating plant immunity, Professor Du Yuguang took the lead in putting forward the concept of "sugar chain plant vaccine" in the world in 2010. The book "Research and application of sugar chain plant vaccine" was also published in 2012, and won academician Guo Yuyuan, a well-known plant protection scientist and sugar biologist in China. Academician Zhang Shuzheng highly affirmed.
