From January 7th to 10th, the Chinese Society of Bioengineering organized 10 authoritative experts to go to Hainan again to conduct targeted in-depth supplementary research on the deep integration of "innovation chain, industry chain, capital chain, talent chain, and policy chain" in the field of marine biomanufacturing. This survey is a precise follow-up after the first survey in August 2025, aiming to further solve the key bottleneck of marine biotechnology achievements from laboratory to industrialization and promote the high-quality development of biomanufacturing in the South China Sea region.
The research team has visited multiple scientific research and industrial institutions, including Nanhai Modern Fisheries Industrial Park, Hainan University, Hainan Normal University, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, Hainan Academy of Marine and Fisheries Sciences, and Hainan Institute of Marine Economic Development and Resource Protection. Through immersive visits, thematic discussions, brainstorming, and other forms, they have had in-depth exchanges with local experts and business representatives in Hainan, systematically assessing the current development status of Hainan's marine biomanufacturing industry and providing forward-looking and actionable development suggestions.
During the research, the research team put forward a number of strategic ideas and suggestions: jointly build the South China Sea Marine Biology Manufacturing Strategy Research Institute
In the South China Sea Modern Fisheries Industry Park, experts propose to promote the deep integration of resources among Hainan Jiangpeng Holdings Group, Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, South China Sea Institute of Oceanography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other units, and jointly establish the South China Sea Marine Biological Manufacturing Strategy Research Institute. This is a necessary measure and rapid lever to achieve the leapfrog development of Hainan's marine biological manufacturing industry, which has a very urgent necessity and important role.
Building the World's' Chitin Capital '
At Hainan University, experts conducted in-depth exchanges on topics such as sponge and seahorse production value, establishment of marine biobanks, zebrafish models, and healthy aquaculture. The research team suggested utilizing the duty-free policy of Hainan Free Trade Port to import raw materials such as shrimp and crab shells from Southeast Asian countries, promoting the formation of a global chitin industry center. Layout of biosynthesis and construction of biological resource banks
At Hainan Normal University, the research team suggests laying out the direction of chemistry and biosynthesis in advance, establishing a molecular library of tropical plant polysaccharides, and developing green products such as biopesticides. Promote collaborative research and base construction of brown algae oligosaccharides
At the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, the research team proposed that the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences sugar bioengineering team should share the resource database, solve the problem of sequence analysis of alginate oligosaccharides through technical cooperation, and jointly build the aquatic product processing base and the Marine Biological Manufacturing Research Institute. Jointly build a marine biomanufacturing raw material base
At the Hainan Academy of Marine and Fishery Sciences, the research team proposed the intention to cooperate in building a large-scale and standardized marine biological raw material supply base.
Promote the implementation of industrial policies
The Hainan Institute of Marine Economic Development and Resource Conservation expressed its willingness to work with the Chinese Society of Bioengineering to promote the formulation and implementation of relevant industry support policies.
Zhang Hongxiang, Secretary General of the Chinese Society of Bioengineering, pointed out that the research on marine biological resources in Hainan is characterized by scattered distribution. It is necessary to systematically summarize the "multi chain integration" path of marine biological manufacturing, focusing on the construction of the South China Sea Marine Biological Manufacturing Strategy Research Institute and the creation of the clam industry chain. A high-quality decision-making consultation report should be formed to provide scientific decision-making support for the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and Government, and to assist in the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port and the innovative development of the marine economy.
Relevant personnel from the Planning and Development Department and the Science and Technology Innovation Department of Hainan Association for Science and Technology participated in the research throughout the process.
